Why German homes?
Every year the German police publish their crime statistics. In 2024 there were 78,436 home burglaries in Germany, and in 35,857 of them the burglar never got inside. He tried, it took too long, and he left. German doors lock at several points, cylinders are shielded, windows lock all around the frame, and Germans have habits like "a tilted window is an open window." These books translate that system into American hardware from an American store, mostly for the price of a few pizzas.

Guten Tag, my friend. I'm Ernst. My channel, Opa Ernst's Hacks, shows the German way to protect and fix a home: no scare tactics, no expensive systems, just old German know-how from a man who measures three times. My wife Liesel keeps the house clean. I keep it standing.
Every method and number in these books comes from published sources: German police crime-prevention guidance, FBI crime data, the CDC, the NFPA, the FTC, building standards and manufacturers' instructions. Sources are listed at the back of every book.

My husband went around the house afterwards checking every window. Clear, no scare stuff, just tells you what to buy and where it goes."

The German Home Security Handbook
"I bought the bundle for my mother, who lives alone since Dad passed. We sat down with the Living Alone book over coffee and did the door script, the code word and the night lights that same afternoon. She calls it Ernst's book now."
Mark T., Pennsylvania
Living Alone Safely After 60
"Fix 38, the running toilet. The plumber wanted $240. The flapper was $9 and took me fifteen minutes with the book open on the tank lid. I've done six more fixes since. Should have bought this years ago."
